Police K9 Attacks Innocent 52-Year-Old Woman Taking Out Her Trash--Lawsuit Filed!

Desiree Collins
the root

Can you imagine taking the trash out and being attacked by a police K9? How does this happen you ask?!!

Well, that's exactly what happened to Desiree Collins, 52 of Minnesota.  On September 23rd, according to Minnesota CBS Local News, Collins was attacked by a police K9 that bit her on her arms and legs.

Her screams and terrified shrieks of fear are unbearable to watch. Let alone, the visible pain is unimaginable.

Collins has filed a federal lawsuit against the police officer, Thaddeus Schmidt, who did not follow standard K9 protocol, and the police department. Luckily, a police body cam caught the incident on film.

Our hearts go out to Desiree for such a horrible tragedy. There are no words to describe the lack of genuine concern from the officers as they rush her to her feet commanding her to "stand up." Wait...yes there are--disgusting, brutal, inhumane & vile.

When Desiree asked: "what did I do wrong?" The officer replied: “Just in the wrong place at the wrong time.” WTF! This woman was brutally and unexpectedly attacked by a killer K9 while taking out her trash. Further, she was attacked without provocation--having done nothing wrong...and that's all they can say?!!!

Apparently, they were looking for a burglar in the area. However, there is no justification for what happened to this poor woman!

Police chief, Todd Axtell, released a statement addressing the mistake. Here's what he had to say:

“What happened to Ms. Collins was a terrible accident that should not have occurred, I am sorry it happened and that she was injured. As a department, we wish we could go back and do things differently. Unfortunately, we can’t. What we can do is apologize and take responsibility, offer support and compassion and learn from the incident so we can continue to work to prevent it from happening to anyone else.”

The K9's leash was too long and his handler, officer Schmidt, failed to call out warnings about the dog. And we'll also add--they clearly didn't have control of the K9, who refused to let go of poor Ms. Collins on command. It took an excruciating bit more time before they could free her from this K9's jaws.

But get this, Minnesota has had a history of K9 misconduct. This ain't the first time. In 2016, the city paid $2 million to a citizen bitten by a K9. In the same year, they paid another $200,000 to a woman attacked by a K9 dog in her own back yard.

We're hoping Ms. Collins gets financial justice for this horrific attack she suffered. Makes no damn sense. Minnesota PD...#ItsTooMuch!!
