Parents and teens clash all of the time. It's almost a rite of passage. But, a Maryland mom's argument with her 17-year old son ended in her shooting and killing him in their home.

On Thursday, February 22, Angelique Chase, 48, had words with her son, Christopher Perry. It started when she chastised him for using disrespectful language while playing video games. Chase tried to take his games and his cell phone and that's when things turned physical. The whole scene was so bad that a family member stepped in to separate them. But, the fighting didn't end there.

Reportedly, Chase sent the male family member down to the basement. Not long after, he says that he heard a "loud bang." Chase shot her son, but he was still alive. She called 911 herself. The EMS team wasted no time taking Perry to the hospital, but the teen died shortly thereafter.

WTOP reported that Chase was initially arrested and charged with second-degree murder and assault. Court documents revealed that she did admit to shooting him. Since that time, first-degree murder and weapons charges have been added to her indictment.

Perry's teachers, administrators, and classmates were shocked by the news of his passing. He has been described as an all-around good kid. Sadly, his mother suffers from a mental illness that could have been a factor in her decision to use a gun as a way to discipline Perry. Why would a mentally ill person have a gun in the first place?

We may never fully understand what was going on in Chase's mind that night. She is now in jail being held without bond. Whether or not her mental health issues played a role in this tragedy is unknown, but having to live with the memory of murdering her own son only adds insult to injury. Granted, Chase must be held accountable. But what other punishment do you need?
