#BlackGirlMagic! Pregnant College Student Finishes Final Exam While In Labor
Nayzia Thomas is not one to let going into labor stop her from her finishing her final exams for college. Hey...she put in the whole semester of work, why stop now and have to take an incomplete?
The pregnant sophomore, who is a psychology major at Johnson County Community College in Kansas City, Missouri, brought her laptop into her hospital room to finish her test while she was prepping to give birth.
THAT'S WHAT WE CALL HAVING A SERIOUS WORK ETHIC!!! Lucky for us, her mother took a pic of her in her hospital bed getting her work done. The teen then posted it on Twitter, which quickly went viral!
According to Blavity, after Nayzia completed her final on dissociative identity disorder, she gave birth to her son, Anthony Johnson, on Dec. 12 at 1:30 p.m.
Nayzia told Yahoo News, that she wanted for the world to see that being a teen mother doesn't mean you don't value your education.
“School is so important to me,” she said explaining that she was working three jobs and going to summer classes when she found out about her pregnancy.
“I didn’t want [the pregnancy] to be in the way. That’s what people expect. You’re a teen mom, you’re a young mother. That’s why my mom took that picture. It shows [I] follow through.”
YES, SIS...THIS IS HOW YOU FOLLOW THROUGH!
Now while her test went smoothly, her delivery had a few complications, but she is doing fine now. That, and she got a 3.5 GPA this semester too!
"update: on 12/12/17 we had a healthy baby boy. However, I experienced major blood loss & my body went into shock post-delivery. It was very scary, but his father was right there to take over when I went unconscious. We are blessed! AND I'm finishing the semester w/ a 3.5 GPA," she wrote on a Twitter post with a picture of her newborn and loving boyfriend.
Of course, Black Twitter was there to congratulate her (and feel her pain):
Nayzia 's story is pretty impressive and we like the message that she is sending young Black mothers: You can still live your dreams, you just gotta be willing to do the work, no matter what!
Congrats Nayzia! You deserve it!
