Barack Obama And Prince Harry Discuss Social Media (And Meghan Markle!) In A New Interview
Barack Obama and Prince Harry have officially taken their bromance to the British airwaves.
The former U.S. president and the newly engaged British royal sat down for a chat together on the BBC Radio 4 news program recently, and the resulting interview — out this Wednesday — is as insightful as it is hilarious.
Recorded back in September when Obama and Harry were both in Toronto for the Invictus Games, the interview touches on everything from policy to Harry's fiancée Meghan Markle — the former Suits actress who, at the time the interview was recorded, had only just appeared in public with the red-headed royal, as People pointed out.
Naturally, then, when Harry decided to lightheartedly ask if Obama preferred Suits or The Good Wife, Barry played along: “Suits, obviously," he said.
The interview wasn’t all jokes, though: The two global power players discussed serious topics as well, with Obama admitting that while he's felt a certain "serenity" since leaving office, he still maintains an unwavering commitment to the betterment of the world, per NBC News.
“I still care about making sure that the United States and the world is a place where kids get a decent education," explained the former POTUS, 56. "Where people who are willing to work hard are able to find a job that pays a living wage. That we’re conserving the amazing resources of our planet so that future generations can enjoy the beauty of this place. Like we did.”
The pair also threw some very subtle jabs at President Donald Trump, because of course. Obama took the high road, per usual, only saying that on the day of his successor's inauguration, he was more grateful than ever to have his wife, Michelle, be "my partner through that whole process."
When the topic of social media use was broached, though, Barack's musings were slightly more pointed: “People can have entirely different realities … they can be cocooned in information that reinforces their current biases," he said.
While that sentiment could realistically apply to any number of Americans who believe whatever comes up on their Facebook feed, it’s likely a criticism of Trump cherry-picking whatever questionable news sources suit his agenda, TBH.
Once again, then, we’re left wondering why we ever let Obama leave office in the first place. SIGH.
