Puff, Puff, Stash! Spicer Says The GOP Is Coming After States Who Legalized Marijuana
While Election 2016 was a major win for marijuana legalization, Trump taking office as commander in chief has marijuana advocates shook, and rightfully so.
At a press conference Thursday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer made it clear that Trump and his team of deplorables plan to up the ante and go hard when it comes to the enforcement of federal laws against recreational weed.
“I do believe that you’ll see greater enforcement,” Spicer told reporters, while adding the exact policy is “a question for the Department of Justice.”
First immigration, and now they are trying to take the ganja too?
If Spicer's comments hold weight, this is a major blow to the past eight years of fighting for legalization under the Obama administration.
Spicer said the administration won't go after medical marijuana patients, saying Trump believes in its ability to "comfort" people suffering from debilitating diseases.
But in the same breath, the administration claims recreational marijuana is a problem, linking it to the abuse of opioids, which is complete bull s---. In fact, research shows the exact opposite! Taking a toke or two, can help wean people off of prescription drugs.
Eight states and the District of Columbia have legalized marijuana for recreational use. Twenty others have laws, which allow medical marijuana with countless others working to legalize it in 2017.
A poll released by Quinnipiac University showed 71 percent of Americans oppose efforts to enforce federal marijuana laws in states where it’s legal. According to the poll, 59 percent of Americans support the legalization of marijuana.
So where does the Trump administration get off trying to ax the progress? Certainly not from the American people.
