Scott Baio Responds To Critics Of His Erin Moran Remarks: 'You Bash Me Only Because I Support Trump'
Scott Baio is being punished for his politics, according to Scott Baio.
ICYMI, the actor (and outspoken Trump supporter) came under fire earlier this week after he commented on rumors related to the sudden death of Erin Moran, his former Happy Days and Joanie Loves Chachi co-star.
Baio had told The Bernie and Sid Show hosts Monday that he was "a little shocked but not completely shocked" after hearing reports that the "troubled" actress may have overdosed. (An autopsy later revealed that Moran, 56, who had a history of partying, likely died from complications of stage 4 cancer, according to Fox News.)
"I feel bad because her whole life she was troubled, could never find what made her happy and content, you know what I mean?" Baio explained during the show. "For me, you do drugs or drink, you’re gonna die. And I’m sorry if that’s cold, but… God gave you a brain, gave you the will to live and thrive, and you gotta take care of yourself. I’m sorry. You just have to, and I am saddened by what happened."
Twitter was NOT here for Baio's remarks — probably because they were insensitive AF. But Baio had another theory on the backlash.
"My wife @MrsScottBaio spoke to Erin less than 1 month ago," Baio tweeted to one of his critics. "You bash me ONLY because I support Pres @realDonaldTrump"
Think so? 🤔
For what it's worth, Baio later tried to clarify his comments about Moran with a statement on Facebook.
"I was on an emotional rollercoaster" after hearing reports that Moran had died from a heroin overdose, Baio wrote in the lengthy post. "I hadn't slept well since the news of her passing."

During his radio interview, "I was still upset and said I felt that living that kind of a lifestyle will catch up with you and nothing good would come of it," he continued. "THIS WAS BEFORE THE CAUSE OF DEATH WAS ANNOUNCED STATING STAGE 4 CANCER."
"I don't see people going after or attacking every network that said it was a drug overdose," he concluded. "I've openly stated my truths."
But was it enough? Let us know what you think!
