There’s some topics you don’t bring up in an official capacity. The Holocaust is one of them.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer just made possibly his biggest gaffe yet, when he tried to justify America’s bombing of Syria by saying their President is worse than Hitler—yea, that Hitler—and now many are calling for him to resign IMMEDIATELY.

In case you missed the Middle East drama of recent weeks, Syria has been accused of using chemical weapons (a major international war crime) against its own people, killing dozens of civilians in the process.

In response to that, Trump authorized a massive missile strike against the airfield from whence the chemical attack came. That decision has been met with a considerable amount of controversy for several reasons: what right does America have to interfere? Didn’t Trump promise “America First?” And none of this is to mention that Trump tweeted last year that Obama, when presented with the same problem, shouldn’t bomb Syria.

Thus, the press has been trying to get the White House’s facts and motivations straightened out. And when you want information from the White House, you have to go through Sean Spicer.

Spicer was defending the decision to attack Syria by bashing their President, Bashar al-Assad. And there’s plenty to call out al-Assad for, but Spicer got a bit carried away on this occasion:

“You had someone as despicable as Hitler who didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons,” the now infamous quote goes. “He was not using the gas on his own people in the same way that Assad is doing.”

The implication being, al-Assad is worse than Adolf Hitler. Which, considering the extent of Hitler’s war crimes, is quite possibly the most ridiculous thing ever said.

And it gets worse. The idea that Hitler wasn’t using "gas" brings up all sorts of problems; the line ‘on his own people’ makes it even more terrible, as it distinguishes Jews as non-German.

Like we said, you’d be hard pressed to say something more incorrect and horrible than this.

Amongst the most notable people/places calling for Spicer’s head on a platter are Rep. Nancy Pelosi and the Anne Frank Center. The executive director of the Center called that line, “the most evil slur upon a group of people we have ever heard from a White House press secretary."

Spicer’s since tried to apologize and clarify his comments, but many aren’t buying it. What do you think? Should he finally be fired from his role as Press Secretary?
