Sean Spicer's Reaction To Melissa McCarthy's 'SNL' Impression Of Him Is Super Awkward
Melissa McCarthy has stolen this season of Saturday Night Live with her almost-TOO-good impression of Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
For all the headlines McCarthy's caricature has made, it was only a matter of time before Spicer himself was asked about it...which is exactly what happened on Monday at the White House Easter Egg Roll.
As Marie Claire pointed out, CNN's Jim Acosta was the reporter who posed the question on everyone's minds: Is Spicer a fan of the impression, or nah?
In Spicer's defense, this was a tricky question to answer: Does he speak favorably of the impression, even though his boss loathes how SNL treats his administration? Or does he condone it and risk looking like a poor sport who can't take a few jabs now and then?
Spicer goes a completely different (and awkward) route by trying to avoid answering the question: "I'm usually fast asleep by the time that comes on," he tells Acosta. "I'm in bed, get up, go to church the next day, and look ahead." He's never heard of YouTube, apparently.
Still, Acosta presses him: "But you have fun with it, right? I mean, you enjoy it..."
Again, no comment: "My focus is on advancing the president's agenda and his policies, and, you know, we live in a great world that people can say and do what they want because of the First Amendment, and that's what makes this such a great country," Spicer says.
Nevermind, then. Perhaps we'll see McCarthy's interpretation of this cringeworthy interview in a future episode of SNL? (We can only hope.)
