One Night Only! See Prince Perform New Music 2 Years After His Death
He's baaack! Well kinda.
Did you miss seeing Prince live in concert? If you’re kicking yourself for not getting on that when you could’ve, you now have a second chance! Thanks to the wonders of modern tech, The Purple One will be performing for one night only this April.
That’s right, fam!! On April 21, 2018, two years to the day after his tragic and untimely death, Prince will rock Target Center in his hometown of Minneapolis...via video.
The arena and Paisley Park Museum announced Prince: Live on the Big Screen as a “special concert event” that’ll honor His Royal Badness and treat his many fans to an unprecedented experience, reported Rolling Stone.
“The concert will feature newly remastered and never-before-released audio and video of Prince accompanied live on the Target Center stage by a super-group of musicians who performed alongside Prince throughout his legendary career,” the official event description reads. “The live experience will showcase Prince in his own inimitable sound and style, highlighting the incendiary energy he brought to each performance.” The page also teased some “very special guests.” Hmmm. The suspense!
This is not a “hologram concert” in case you’re wondering. Although the idea has been thrown around by Prince’s sister Tyka Nelson, it hasn’t happened yet. But these 3D illusions have previously been used to bring stars such as Michael Jackson and Tupac Shakur back to life for concert performances, and Whitney Houston’s estate has had plans to do something similar for a while, so…It could happen!
This non-holographic, but still totally dope Prince event, will happen during a 4-day party honoring the legend’s legacy. In fact, there’s been a slew of cool stuff going on, leading to this memorial concert and unveiling of unreleased material.
Showtime aired the rarely-seen Sign o’ the Times concert film last fall to record tune-ins. The Paisley Park estate hosted a battle of the bands, awarding the winning group a “mentorship session” with members of Prince's former backing band New Power Generation. Plus, Paisley Park sent an exhibit of Prince memorabilia to London in the fall of 2016, and a photo book titled Prince: A Private View, featuring a forward from Beyoncé, came out.
Tickets will go on sale for Prince: Live on the Big Screen on January 20, 2018...you KNOW they’re gonna sell out quick!
Will you go? Tell us! #PrinceForever
