Shay Mitchell's Guide to Getting in Shape

Shay Mitchell's Guide to Getting in Shape
James Macari / COSMOPOLITAN

This past June, Shay Mitchell slayed the cover of Cosmopolitan. However, just two weeks before her big shoot, she found out she would be modeling swimsuits. At first, the idea of modeling swimsuits was a bit intimidating, but she enthusiastically jumped right in and used the next two weeks getting in tip top shape for her cover.

It's no secret that Mitchell knows what she's doing when it comes to fitness, as we've seen on her YouTube channel several times before. She's one of the few people that can make working out actually look fun.

We love following Shay's fitness journey on all mediums, especially instagram. Along with stunning shots of her travels and her fierce #OOTD pictures, she also shares with us inspiring fitness content.

So, what's her big secret? It's obvious that fitness and health are important to Mitchell, but during the 14 day period before her Cosmo shoot, she went above and beyond her normal routine.

1. Water, water and MORE WATER.
No matter what your fitness goals are, water should be your top priority. Mitchell told Cosmo,"When you're more hydrated, you're actually not craving as much of the junk as you are when you are dehydrated, and it kind of fills you up a little bit more." She would end up carrying around a liter at all times to stay hydrated.

2. She said goodbye to candy. (For the most part.)
There are always candy bowls out on the set of Pretty Little Liars and typically, Shay makes sure to take advantage of them. But for these two weeks, she tried to keep her distance.

3. She stopped eating after 8PM.
There's a lot of theories about how we mindlessly eat at night and how that can affect our bodies, so Shay said farewell to eating late at night. This didn't seem to bother her though, considering she's an early bird.

4. She took her workouts to the next level.
Who wants to do all their workouts solely at the gym anyways? It's pretty clear on her YouTube channel: she takes her workouts all over the world with her, making it a lot more versatile. At the same time, she encourages everyone to exercise regardless of location. "I also did a lot of things at my own house," she said. "It's surprising what you can do with a chair and with a couch."
