Should Masturbation be Included in Health Class? Shailene Woodley Thinks So!
Most of us love Shailene Woodley for her movies, but a lot of us love her for what she has to say when she’s off screen. From her thoughts on feminism to her latest stand on masturbation, we can't get enough. She went on about the importance of teaching the lessons of self-pleasure in school in an interview with Net-a-Porter, and we could not agree more! Masturbation is something we all do way before we get into bed with another person, and teaching it in class would open up a dialogue so that it's no longer this taboo topic rarely spoken about outside of intimate get-togethers.
Woodley was talking about her latest role in Snowden alongside the hotness that is Joseph Gordon-Levitt and for some reason she got into masturbation being taught in school. She said, “As a young woman you don’t learn how to pleasure yourself, you don’t learn what an orgasm should be, you don’t learn that you should have feelings of satisfaction,” adding, “I’ve always had a dream of making a book called There’s No Right Way to Masturbate. If masturbation were taught in school, I wonder how [many] fewer people would get herpes aged 16, or pregnant at 14?"
Our girl from the Divergent Series thinks lessons of solo satisfaction would lower STDs and pregnancies in teens, and she's right. I admit that I wish I could have hooked up with my crush back in high school, but I'll be honest - I was sexually satisfied because I discovered masturbation at an early age thanks to cable. The only thing about it is that I wish it wasn't as taboo to talk about out in the open. It's like we're all doing it, but nobody wants to admit it at that age.
Now we're not saying to have demonstrations. Oh lord no! Can you imagine learning the actual mechanics of masturbation from your health teacher?! Before we all are tossing up our last meal, let's refrain by saying that we want masturbation taught in school but as more of a section in the chapter about sex. Sexual pleasure isn't just a team sport. You can score a lot of points on the court by yourself too. So come on stuffy schools who only want to toss a condom on a banana and call it a day. If you're going to have sex-ed - include the basics of the wonderful world of masturbation, and stress that it's as natural as a sunrise.
