Rep. Stacey Abrams Sets Her Sights On Being America’s First Black Woman Governor
Meet Stacey Abrams. She’s a Yale educated attorney, experienced, opinionated, passionate, and Black. We mean it in the most proud way, too, natural hair and all. We love it!
She reminds us of an Auntie, you know that one auntie that's mad cool, but will turn up on you if you step out of line? Well, that’s Abrams and she is in the running to be the next governor of the state of Georgia. If she is successful, she will turn a long time red state blue. Here is the tea on Abrams...
First of all, she grew up like you & me.
We bet you have a picture like this hanging up in your grandma’s house. This picture speaks volumes to the foundation of Stacey and her upbringing. She has five siblings and grew up in Gulfport, Mississippi.

She ain’t scared, either. Abrams is not afraid to stand up for what’s right and is vocal about issues that affect Black people. She’s been quoted saying ““I don't look like what people expect. And that expectation often is transmuted into whether they think I can be successful.”

She also knows what she’s doing. Stacey was the first Black person to lead in the House of Representatives as minority leader. The Democratic leader in the state capitol these last seven years, she was elected to the state house of representatives in 2006.

According to the Washington Post, at 43-years-old, Stacey has a vision for the state of Georgia that is more conducive to all demographics. She promotes equality for all residents of Georgia and, recently, her campaign has done an excellent job of rallying women of all races. Abrams 1,000 Women Strong Coalition gathered women from across Georgia to participate in voter engagement.
Read up on her good works. She hopes to replace Gov. Nathan Deal (GA). We think she can do it! Let us know your thoughts!
