The TV Host Flubbed Big Time: “I feel terrible!”

Being on live TV is hard. The pressure immense, and the host Steve Harvey cracked. Poor guy.

Here’s what happened. He was hosting the Miss Universe Pageant from Las Vegas on live television. When the contest came down to the wire, with only Miss Columbia and Miss Philippines standing onstage, he accidentally skipped over “first runner up” and announced Miss Columbia as the winner.

That’s not how it was, though. Miss Columbia was the first runner up, and Miss Philippines was actually the champ.

“I’ve got to apologize,” Steve said, catching his mistake. Miss Columbia had already been crowned and was holding her roses, ready to take to her victory walk down the runway when everything changed.

Check out the video – the women’s expressions are priceless! What a tense moment.

Afterward, Steve personally apologized to Pia Wurtzbach. Harvey held her hands as he said his mea culpa to the Filipina beauty queen. “I apologize.” She replied, “No, it’s fine.”

“I want it to be great, I wanted to fix it, I wanted to do it right. Thank you very much. You look absolutely gorgeous,” he said. Watch the video to see how gracious Pia is, already acting like a true Miss Universe.

All’s well that ends well. Pia was thrilled to have won. “It’s a very non-traditional crowning moment… It was very 2015.”
