Is Tequila The Secret To Weight Loss You've Been Waiting For?
We've all heard about the repercussions of drinking. Alcohol, including tequila, has been known as the empty calories that you shouldn't be drinking on the daily, or at all, especially if you're looking to lose weight. But lucky for us tequila drinkers, there's a new study that tells us otherwise.
In a recent study done by The American Chemical Society, they found that tequila can be linked to weight loss. That's not to say that we should be pounding back margaritas all day long to lose those extra lbs., there's a ton of sugar in those! But, those nights where you have a round of shots just might do the trick.
What's the secret ingredient?
Tequila contains agave which is made of non-digestible sugars that can actually help lower your blood sugar level. As high blood sugar level is linked to diabetes and obesity, we're already on the right track.
The Study
The America Chemical Society continued their study with mice. The mice were fed a standard diet and then some of them were given agavin-infused water (remember, agave is found in tequila). Those who were given the agavin water ended up eating less overall and had lower blood sugar levels than those who were not given the agavin water. They also found that the mice who were fed the agavin water produced a hormone that keeps the stomach feeling fuller, longer. Not to mention, the hormone produces insulin that is great for people with type-2 diabetes or struggling with weight loss.
The Result
To cut it short, tequila can make you feel full and does not have a ton of sugar in it that will add to your blood sugar level or weight gain. Just remember that drinks with tequila as an added ingredient isn't the right way to go. That means you cannot consider a sugary strawberry margarita a weight loss technique. Aim for the tequila shots, as brutal as that sounds. A straight tequila shot will have no other ingredients and is a guaranteed mechanism to making you feel fuller throughout the night and will have you on the path to weight loss. Just remember... drink responsibly.
