If you are found guilty of sex trafficking in San Bernardino, then you might be handed the sentence of a few lifetimes. Demetrius Manning faces 185 years to life in a California state prison for luring a woman to his apartment with promises of stardom.

The 29-year old man was found guilty of human trafficking, rape, false imprisonment, felony assault, kidnapping for rape, and making criminal threats. Note that Manning was arrested and charged for these crimes on February 10, 2015, and was found guilty in May of that same year. His sentencing didn't occur for another two years on Friday, June 2, 2017.

According to the district attorney, Manning invited a 23-year old woman to his home under the guise that he could help her further her music career. Upon arrival, her dreams quickly turned into a nightmare. "When she got to his residence, she realized that he didn't have any interest in helping her with music but forced himself on her, raping her, and forcing her to perform other sex acts," Lead Deputy District Attorney Melissa Rodriguez said.

But Manning didn't stop there. He told the woman that she was going to work for him as a prostitute and even gave her a street name: "Treasure." Whatever she earned would all go straight into Manning's pockets. Somehow she managed to get free of him and the predator will now pay for his heinous crimes.

"Thanks to the great work of the San Bernardino Police Department and our Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit, we took another trafficker off the streets," District Attorney Mike Ramos said via a press release.

Perhaps now the young woman can heal from this tragic episode in her life and rest easy knowing that Manning will be behind bars for the rest of his days. It won't erase what he put her through, but at least he will be held accountable. That's gotta count for something.
