The Hypnotizing New Way To Color Your Hair

The Hypnotizing New Way To Color Your Hair

Fluid hair painting is among the coolest hair trends we’ve seen so far in 2016. The technique, which originated in a Grand Rapids, Michigan salon, involves lying back with your hair fanned out on a table while a stylist divides your hair in pieces and paints on the color(s). This method creates a tie-dye/ombre look similar to balayage, the dyeing method from the United Kingdom that involves brushing the color on gradually. Fluid hair painting, however, gives your stylist more control over the dye (particularly when he or she is using a few different colors together) resulting in an evenly blended, flawless look. Here’s KL Christoffsen, the stylist behind fluid hair painting, in action.

According to Christoffsen, the technique “gives me the ability to thoroughly look over every strand to see how the color melts from top to bottom. Plus, no matter how the client parts their hair you’re able to give them a tailored, multidimensional color because you can visually see how everything will collapse together.” The technique works with almost every style, from subdued blonde ombre to pastel rainbows.

Here are some of our favorite looks created using the fluid hair painting method. Which one would you try?
