The New Planet Earth Trailer Is Truly Mesmerizing
When "Planet Earth" first came out in 2006, it took the world by storm. Narrated by the delightful Englishman David Attenborough, the iconic footage of the Great White Shark leaping 20 feet out of the water will never be forgotten. For others, maybe their favorite is the odd mating dances of the birds of paradise, reminding everyone who's been on a dating app how hard it is out there.
But like George Harrison said, all things must pass. Slowly we all watched "Planet Earth" less and less. They put out another version, narrated by Sigourney Weaver which we all watched but wasn't quite as good as Attenborough's proper English. Eventually it faded from the zeitgeist, and seemed to exist now only in our memories.
UNTIL NOW.
The "Planet Earth II" trailer dropped mid-October and its fantastic. If you haven't seen it yet, prepare to get hype:
First of all, the string music in this trailer can get anyone more emotional than that song from "Requiem for a Dream." The cello proves itself again and again to be the most emotion-educing instrument out there (unless we're counting the vuvuzela, which brings out a whole different type of raw emotion).
Second of all, did you see that part with the lion and the giraffe?!
Third of all, slow motion. To be more general, cameras have made amazing advancements in the last 10 years. Think about how easy it is for you to take your phone out and record yourself doing a jump squat at the gym, posting it to Facebook, and getting over 70 likes. Slow motion just looks great. Now imagine that type of technology (times 20) in the hands of professional cinematographers. Did we mention they shot it all in 4k!?
"Planet Earth II" was premiered on January 28th, 2017 and again is narrated by David Attenborough.
