These Are The Absolute Hippest Neighborhoods In America
You're only as cool as the neighborhood you live in. At least, that's what some people may argue. Personally, I think coolness has more to do with personality, but I do have to say, whenever I meet someone from these hoods, they tend to have pretty rad.
Bushwick, NYC, NY
Williamsburg used to be the major hipster colony in NYC, but the hipsters, as they tend to, got over Williamsburg as soon as other people started liking it. Nowadays, you can find them settled in Bushwick, a neighborhood in slightly deeper into Brooklyn that is thriving in it's own right filled with artistic life and too-cool-for-school warehouse parties.
Take the J or L train to arrive in a paradise of trendy bars and restaurants. If you don't hit up Roberta's for brunch, you're missing the point of life.
(Just make sure you're ready to wait for like..... hours. We promise it's worth it!)
The Mission, San Francisco, CA
To be fair, the entire city of SF (no one calls it San Fran) is hip, trendy, and totally psychedelic. But the Mission is clearly the coolest. It's an incredibly diverse area with some of the best restaurants in the country. The artistic culture is on another level here (and the Mariachi bands are not to be missed!). And you simply have to be there for Carnaval.
Trust us on this one!
Wicker Park, Chicago, IL
Since the 1980s, Wicker Park has been attracting artists and bohemians filled with wanderlust. Incredible galleries, vintage stores, and a quaint, yet stunning park make Wicker Park the most exquisite place in Chicago.
The best tacos in all the Midwest can be found here, at Big Star! They'll warm you even on the coldest days of winter.
Pearl District, Portland, OR
As a city, Portland is awesome. It's even got its own TV show!
But if you really want to up your trend-meter, settle in the Pearl District within Portland. It's got a TON of artisan coffee shops. We hear Barista serves the best cup o' joe in the country! Scoring a loft apartment in this hip hood will give you major bragging rights at your high school reunion.
East Austin, Austin, TX
Grab your cowboy hats and head down to Texas y'all! East Austin is poised to become one of, if not THE, coolest place in America. It's got some of the best Mexican food in the country, INSANE nightlife, quirky coffee shops, and food trucks that will make you wonder why food isn't always served in trucks.
Check it out before everyone else does!
Silver Lake, Los Angeles, CA
Hipsters continue to flock to Silver Lake, and once they get there, they STAY there. Asking one to come West of the 101 (which basically means a 10 minute drive) and they'll just shake their heads. In LA, there's the fun areas like West Hollywood, bougie areas like Beverly Hills, and THEN, there's the best neighborhood: Silver Lake!
The coffee shops are. The bars are cool. The nightlife is cool. Even the dogs are cool. No, seriously. The dogs are cooler than most people in this part of town.
