This 12-Year-Old Rises Above The Haters For Wearing Makeup
Kids can be the absolute worst, right? They're young and don't realize all that teasing and bullying can really have an impact on someone’s life. Thankfully though there are some young people out there who can take that negativity and spin it around like 12-year-old Reuben de Maid.
Because Reuben happened to be a little different than the boys in his class, he wasn't just made fun of, but physically attacked as well. He recently went on Ellen to talk about overcoming the haters and not being ashamed of his passion.

Most boys Reuben's age want nothing more in life than to be engulfed in a video game or being outside with a face full of dirt. Reuben found that he would rather spend his time doing creative things like being in the theater and practicing how to get the perfect highlight on his face. Yup, he's a boy who loves to watch makeup tutorials on YouTube and then try them out on himself.
Which, really isn't anything too new. In 2016 we were introduced to Cover Girl's first ever male ambassador, James Charles. While all of us can sit and applaud a kid like Reuben for doing what he wants and not caring what others think, some of his classmates weren't about it.
Appearing on Ellen, Reuben recounted times when he was not only teased verbally, but physically as well. The boys in his theater class would kick and punch him for rocking a full face of makeup. Where were the teachers in all of this?
The harassment went on so much, he eventually had to transfer the hell out of there and change schools. He got away from those losers and is now happy, and still doing what he does the best; slaying the makeup game. Seriously, he does his face better than people twice, three times, his age.
Ellen praised him saying, "Good for you for not stopping who you are." We agree 100%! We hope Reuben de Maid never loses his love for makeup, and one day achieves his dream of having his own makeup brand. James Charles may have competition sooner than later!
