Beware! There's A New Drug That Can Cause An Overdose Just By Touching It
There's a synthetic drug named fentanyl and it can lead to death, an overdose, or both by simply touching it.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, fentanyl is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine and has similar effects to heroine.
Earlier this month, an Ohio police officer, John Green, experienced a lethal drug overdose after brushing fentanyl powder off of his clothes. He, along with other officers, stopped a vehicle that contained fentanyl powder, and after Green came in contact with the powerful drug, he fell to the ground and was rushed to the hospital where he was treated and began to recover.
Many people are in fear of this drug and how it will continue to have a deadly effect. It only takes 3 milligrams for fentanyl to become extremely deadly for its victims, so it's important for awareness of this drug to spread quickly. There is also concern that fentanyl can be airborne, leading to even more health concerns.
The synthetic drug could also have a huge negative impact on the black community. Because fentanyl can be mixed with heroine and sold, this can mean an even harsher addiction issue and death rate for those who use addictive drugs. People of color have also experienced more than a double in death rates due to heroine overdose recently, so with this more powerful drug on the scene, it's important now more than ever to educate you children, friends and family members on the real life consequences of these dangerous drugs.
