After reading this, you might hope you get a cold.

Turns out one of the best ways to relieve a cold involves one of your favorite drinks. Alcohol!

Whiskey actually can make you feel better. Well, you already knew it made you feel better, but it can fight the gross symptoms of being sick. It's proven that whiskey helps with a mild cough and cold.

Should you drink a bottle of whiskey? No. But whipping yourself up a hot toddy? A pretty great idea.

If you're not familiar with the hot toddy (because it usually is a real old lady drink), it's pretty simple. Take bourbon, honey, lemon, and boiling water, mix it up, and there you go! You get a warm, soothing drink with a bit of a boozy punch.

Normally, drinking alcohol when you're sick is a bit of a no-no. It usually makes you dehydrated and can interrupt your sleep. Yeah, even though a bunch of vodka might make you pass out, the sleep during the night becomes disrupted and you'll awake not feeling awesome.

But the hot toddy gets rid of a lot of the alcohol's bad effects. The warm water, lemon, and honey help soothe you to sleep and keep you hydrated all night long.

Lemon alone helps clear your throat and begin to reduce coughing. Add lemon to alcohol and it works even better!

Just make sure you don't mix your hot toddy with any other medications. You may get averse side effects.

Ensure you keep up all the other cold relieving techniques. Drink lots of water and fluids, get rest, and make sure you don't have any other alcohol. Honestly, this time when we say one drink, we really mean it. Too much will just dehydrate you more and being hungover with a cold is a type of living hell.

But if you hate drinking cough syrup or the idea of a warm citrus-y beverage sounds nice, it's okay to turn to the bottle. That one hot toddy will ease your cold and give you a good reason to have a nightcap.
