An MIT Grad Takes The Sex Toy World By Storm

Sex Toy, Viral, MIT Grad

You’ve all heard the one about the engineer who walks into a bar with a sex toy strapped on under her clothes? Oh, no? Well that was the reality and the turning point in MIT-grad Janet Lieberman’s life. She and her boyfriend had just dropped almost $200 on a sex toy she’d wear, but he’d have control over. Sounds amazing, but the two engineers really didn't love the way this toy worked. Lieberman wasn’t feeling it. That’s when she thought it was time to put her degree towards something else, the sex toy industry.

Lieberman told Marie Claire at that moment she thought to herself, “I can make better vibrators.” So that’s what she switched her focus to. A year after knowing she wanted to make sex toys that actually were a fit for women, she met up with Alexandra Fine by way of confusion. Both were 20-something women in Brooklyn networking the same idea, and many they talked to often thought they either knew one another already, or were the same person. After people continued to make the comparison and/or confuse one another, the two finally met up for breakfast. Pancakes soon turned into the founding of Dame Products - a company whose motto is, “We make products for women. Men buy our products, too, but they do so because they think women are going to like them.”

After that Lieberman and Fine got to work. They started designing their first product, Eva. After raising more than $500k, well over their initial goal on Indiegogo, they knew they were onto something with Dame Products, and Eva of course. Early test users who took Eva for a spin with their partners were more than happy with their results. 43-year-old Kylie Stone called it “revolutionary,” while fellow MIT-grad Meredith noted, “For me, it was really strong—stronger than anything I'd experienced before.” Um, so where can I get one? Oh, right here!

With the success of their first, they set out to create another and started working on their finger vibrator, Fin. Their Kickstarter for that is underway this month and these two women promise, they’ll continue “making the world a happier place, one vagina at a time.”

Can we all agree this is a hashtag blessed moment for women all around the world? With so many products out there that are designed with the idea of male pleasure at the backbone, it’s messed up that it’s taken until now for this to be addressed.
