This Subway Guitarist Gives All His Earnings Away To People In Need
Busker with a heart Will Boyajian plays and sings in New York subways to generate funds for the homeless. He says that the rich and the very poor live in close proximity in the huge and bustling city and his purpose is to inspire acts of kindness through song. Beside his guitar case he props a hand made sign that encourages folks with scarce resources to take from his earnings whatever they need. And the well-off are encouraged to give.
Boyajian is a singer, musician, and actor and he also appeared in the iconic film The Wolf of Wall Street and in the off-Broadway theatrical production called SPANDEX The Musical, to name a few of his past gigs. An alumni of Ithaca College in New York's Finger Lake district, Will and other alumni are using their success to make an impact on the lives of those struggling to survive in a difficult economy.
With a chorus of economists raising warning voices about the stagnating economy and what might be coming, it is great to see artists with their talent and with actions taking a stand for lifting up the character of our communities. It is Will's contention that it is easier to reach out and help someone than to watch a person crushed with need go un-helped. Thus he created #hopefulcases, and uses his guitar case as the conduit for transferring help from the wallets of those who have into the hands of those who need.
In an article from the Coalition For The Homeless we learn that "Over the course of City fiscal year 2016, more than 127,652 different homeless men, women, and children slept in the New York City municipal shelter system. This includes over 45,000 different homeless New York City children. That's about the entire population of Niagara Falls!
If you can imagine a village around 19 square miles in area (like Niagara Falls) filled with American children with no houses to live in, no bath tubs or toilets, no kitchens for preparing food, no income for buying warm clothes or shoes for school then you will begin to see the magnitude of the situation. With a little inspiration from Will Boyajian and his #hopefulcases, together we can make some American's in need a little bit safer today.
