Tiny House Villages. You Down?

Tiny House Villages. You Down?

By now there isn’t anyone out there who doesn’t know what a tiny house is, and about more than half of those people are downright fascinated with this movement that popped up within the past few years. Hell, HGTV is making bank off shows dedicated not only to people showing off their little homes, but they also branched out and have Tiny House Hunters and Builders. It’s not just that though.

At first people were interested in these homes and they usually weren’t part of a community, but with rapid growth in popularity - that’s a changing. The Wichita Eagle, researchers at Kansas State University have been doing a lot of investigating when it comes to Tiny Villages - and we’re intrigued.

Even though it seems more people were into watching about tiny houses than buying them for their own, Julia Irwin (a researcher in on this study) said, “We think [living in a tiny village] does a few things for one's health including creating a better sense of community, satisfying people's basic needs for relationships, offering affordable housing options, and encouraging physical activity through community gardens and walking to urban establishments.

On one hand Julia is speaking some truth about the affordability. With a billionaire in office, who knows what is going to happen to the economy. He may not realize real working people exist and hike up prices. Nevertheless, people are always looking to save BUT on the other hand, what she said about the other stuff sounds kind of weird. Does it or does it not sound like something a cult leader would say to get you to sign up? Okay, that’s a little harsh but on some real - tiny villages may just wind up looking like those compounds the police have to end up raiding.

Something they didn’t bring up that can be seen as both a positive and a negative of these so called tiny villages popping up is that while it’d take away the amount of land we use to build lavish homes - it’d only make more room for those companies we see every five minutes like Target and Starbucks because in this world - ain’t no land safe when big businesses can make a buck.

Tiny houses will always be a joy to watch on TV because it never ceases to amaze us how they can actually be okay in such a compact place, but the idea of living in one and being part of a community like that just seems a little out there at the moment. For those who want to continue to live like that - please do so with a film crew so we can watch, because most of us probably don't want to join anytime soon.

What do you think, could you get down with the tiny house lifestyle?
