We all have periods of our life when it seems we're trying to breathe underwater, or walk through fire. They are trying times, and we can best get through them if we're transparent with ourselves about what the situation brings in, and omits from our lives. Here are some ways to acknowledge when things aren't fine, in order to get you that much closer to things being just that, authentically great and under control.

1. On the value of worry

While it occupies so much of our time, it rarely accomplishes anything tangible, or brings us any closer to peace. Choose to say "no" to any thoughts that cloud an otherwise sunny morning.

2. On fear of failureOur procrastination and stagnation actually lead to our failure. Having the courage and strength to move forward in the face of uncertainty gives you a chance at success. Take that chance.

3. On working hardSometimes we don't work hard toward something we want because of the hard work, but what is the cost of staying stagnant? Invite worthwhile change, even if it brings temporary struggle.

4. On being in the nowOftentimes we are ruminating about the past, or worrying about the future, missing out on opportunities to make new memories or meet new people. Embrace the space between the past and future.

5. On managing expectationsMany people want to live by the matching mentality- you do something for me and I do something for you. Not everyone operates in this way. Give without expecting anything in return, and receive with appreciation and patience in thoughtfully returning the positive energy in another form, at another time.

6. On getting what you wantGood things don't just come to those who wait, but to those who are patient, and actively working toward their goals. Chase after the big things but appreciate the small pleasures and you win.

7. On moving onNo single event defines us unless we refuse to move past it, by talking about it, thinking about it, and defining ourselves by it. Be fully present and open to new parts of your story to begin to take shape of your life and soul.
