Two adults died and two children were critically wounded in a classroom shooting at a San Bernardino, California, elementary school Monday morning in what officials are calling a murder-suicide.

The deadly shooting occurred just before 10:30 a.m. at North Park Elementary School. Police arrived on the scene within four minutes of the incident, as ABC 7 reported.

According to CNN, a woman who taught at the school was shot and killed by the suspect, who then turned the gun on himself. The relationship between the woman and the man is currently unknown.

Two students who were standing near the female victim at the time of the shooting were injured in the incident, presumably by accident. They remain critical condition at local hospitals.

"Tragedy has again befallen our city," San Bernardino Police Lt. Michael Madden said during a press conference, per the San Bernardino Sun.

The city is still reeling from a 2015 shooting at an office holiday party, which was later deemed a terror attack, that left 14 people dead and 22 injured.

The school shooting suspect's handgun was not visible when he arrived at North Park Elementary this morning, said San Bernardino Police Capt. Ron Maass. The man had reportedly signed in at the school's front office before going to a multigrade classroom, where the woman was teaching.

The school was in lockdown and students were evacuated to a nearby high school shortly after the incident, where they were reunited with their parents.

School officials said North Park Elementary would be closed for at least the next two days.

"I would like our community and our nation to keep our families in prayer," District Superintendent Dale Marsden said.
