Trump Gave Russians Highly-Classified Information, Then Went On A Twitter Rant To Justify It

Is this Trump’s most dangerous blunder yet?

The President of the United States (still hurts to type that) just leaked highly-classified information to the Russians during a meeting, and the fallout could be severe.

Trump recently sat down with the Russian foreign minister and the Russian ambassador to the US. This was just one day after he fired FBI Director James Comey, a controversial move that’s widely suspected to be tied to the current investigation into the White House’s ties with Russia.

So the timing of the meeting was already sketchy, but what Trump said during that meeting was worse.

While the specifics of what the President disclosed are unknown – it's classified info, after all – it’s reportedly connected to ISIS. The source of this information is currently in Syria, and the material leaked so sensitive that even our allies don’t have it.

Important thing to note: while they publically ‘denounce’ terrorism and war crimes, Russia is an ally of Syria. So Trump gave info about our enemy (Syria) to a country the U.S. has publically denounced repeatedly (Russia). And those two countries are besties.

Obviously, U.S. political and intelligence communities went nuts. Republican Senator John McCain called the leak “deeply disturbing,” while reporters with contacts in the intelligence world (think CIA) are hearing things like, “Whoever gave us the intel won’t next time,” and, “For the first time in my life I’m at a loss for words.”

Immediately after this leak was first reported, Trump’s team tried to deny it, saying that there was no truth in the original story. But then, Trump decided to go on Twitter (of course), and completely contradicted his staff by basically confirming he gave the info to the Russians:

Now, unfortunately, the President actually has a lot of legal leeway to give out classified information. This isn’t an impeachable offense, just horribly concerning. But many have been quick to point out that, had someone else leaked this info to the Russians without permission, they’d be fired point-blank.

Too bad we can’t do the same to Trump...or can we?
