Voter ID Laws Target Blacks And Latinos, But A Second Texas Judge Ruled It Violates The Constitution
Voter fraud has been a major issue since the end of the Civil War. Once both whites and blacks were able to vote, white supremacists went haywire, and, as such, the era of Jim Crow emerged. African American voters were stopped by ludicrous rules to try to stifle their right to vote. Even now, states like Texas have used laws to keep minorities away from the polls, and gerrymandering has become a way to keep the Jim Crow era alive.
The redistricting of a state to ensure a conservative outcome is a way to uphold white supremacy and push minorities out of the polls, ensuring that their votes do not matter. Furthermore, more minorities are incarcerated in the United States that people who are primarily Caucasian. Once you are a convicted felon, you can no longer vote.
Even with all of these modern takes on Jim Crow, states continue to make laws to decrease the minority vote. In Texas, a second federal judge ruled that their voter fraud practices are a violation of the Constitution. Specifically, Texas requires one of seven forms of photo-ID. Recently, if you do not have a form of ID, then you can sign an affidavit saying that you do have a photo ID, but it just is not with you. Furthermore, a college ID is not enough, but a signed piece of paper somehow is?
Now more than ever, voting rights and voter fraud have come to the forefront of American politics. President Donald J. Trump refuses to believe that he lost the popular vote and that five million Americans voted illegally for Hillary Clinton. With all of this suspicious hysteria about voter fraud coming from a man who was probably elected through Russian interference has made Americans uneasy about our voting laws and the immigrants that claim American citizenship.
One Texas woman was recently sentenced to eight years in prison for checking the wrong box on her ballot, claiming that she was a citizen when she had a green card. WHAT A SMALL FREAKING MISTAKE! With all of this blatant and rampant racism, voter fraud will continue to run wild. President Trump abandoned President Obama's strict watch on voter fraud, so the 2018 Senate and House elections will be a free for all.
