How You Can Feel Better on Your Period
Periods are the absolute worst. It's the one time of the month when our hormones and moods are thrown out of whack. Some of us get bloated, have cramps, or get tender breasts, draining us of any energy we have. Women sympathize with one another understanding the toll this takes but men tend to just make jokes about "that time of the month". We don't chose to go through this process every month but we are grateful when our periods come. Well ladies, regardless of what anyone else thinks here are a few ways you can feel better during your period from your mental to physical state.
Eat Chocolate
Eat some chocolate during your period especially when you have mood swings or are feeling emotional because you will feel better! We're not saying this just to justify the 3 candy bars you just ate. Although, there is nothing wrong with indulging a little! Studies have actually shown that eating chocolate releases endorphins in women, and during your period, you need all the endorphins you can get.
Heating Pads
While some recommend a warm water bottle for cramps heating pads work far better. Make sure to lie down on your back not your stomach! It's a common misconception that lying on your stomach during your period will alleviate the pain, but the pressure may actually make cramps work and increase bloating. Lie on your back and keep a heating pad above where your uterus is. Your cramps should ease and you'll feel better!
Peppermint Tea
All teas have varying natural benefits that target different body issues from stress to bloating. Peppermint tea helps to alleviate bloating! If you feel bloated during your period you don't need to take Midol; instead, try some peppermint tea in the morning and afternoon or with meals which should help decrease bloating for the day.
Vitamins B-12 and Magnesium
Chances are if you are having any of the previous symptoms you probably also get fatigued during your period. When our bodies shed the endometrial lining and lose so much blood it makes us weak. Vitamin B-12 boosts women's energy levels and will give you stamina on your period. Magnesium vitamins on the other hand help with digestion and your neurological state. That means any uncomfortable gas or headaches you get on your period will decrease with these vitamins while raising overall energy levels.
A Feel Good Movie
While a movie won't make you feel physically better it will help you relax and get you in a better mood. We all get emotional on our periods and have mood swings and often there isn't a good outlet for these emotions. Sometimes we take our frustrations out on others when we're unable to control our hormones, but by watching a feel good movie you'll have an outlet to release these emotions. Pick a movie that will make you laugh, cry, frustrate you a bit, and by the end satisfy all those moods you weren't able to elsewhere. It will help!
