We always hear the phrase 'power couple' being associated with Beyonce and Jay Z. But what does that really mean? Sure, they're both rather successful people. They've shown us that before they even started dating. However, being a 'power couple' is so much more than just money and success. You have to have a strong foundation and use that to build an entire empire together. Both Bey and Jay have taught us all a lot about marriage without even saying a thing. They've showed us what being a power couple really means.

1. The only thing that defines your relationship is you.
People will talk. People will question your relationship and the choices you two make together. But you know what? No one has a love like yours. Literally no one. As Scott Fitzgerald once said, "There all all kinds of love in the world, but never the same love twice." Do not let outside forces control or define your relationship. Forget the haters.

2. Privacy is key.

We're just gonna say it one last time. STOP POSTING YOUR RELATIONSHIP ON SOCIAL MEDIA FOR THE WORLD TO SEE! You're going to regret it later. Just because you're mad at your boo, doesn't mean you should post quotes about them on insta and start texting your girls about it. When things cool down, both of you will feel bad about the publicly aired drama. Keep things between the two of you at all costs. Bey and Jay sure do!

3. For a successful relationship, you need friendship.
Seriously. You are not going to be happy if your entire relationship is based off of lust or even just general interest. You need to be CRAZY about that person in every single way. You need to be able to laugh with them, talk to them, be yourself with them.

4. You can be independent while in a relationship. You can be independent together.
It's no secret that both Bey and Jay were successes before their relationship. They both are very independent people, right? However, they compliment each other perfectly. Don't lose who you are in a relationship, let that person make you find yourself even more.

5. You should always support each other through it all.
If you're only interested in being with someone for the benefits and the good times, you should probably consider the single life. Everyone will have bad, even terrible times, and it's up to you to support that person and balance them out. That's what marriage is all about.
