Seemed like a win/win plan for four thugs holed up in the suburbs of West Chicago: Order a pizza, rob the delivery guy, and enjoy a hot meal.

Since pizza delivery people are typically scrawny high school kids, they figured it would be easy as, well…pie. But the caper did not go as the four men expected.

That’s because the regular delivery guy at the local Beggar’s was sent home early; the owner of the business decided he’d handle the few late-night orders.

Turns out the owner of the franchise is none other than Napoleon Harris III, a former NFL Linebacker for the Oakland Raiders and the Minnesota Vikings, who is 6 feet 3 inches tall, and weighs 250 pounds! Yaaas, you can see where this going right?

Oh, and Harris is also an IL. State Senator! These guys couldn’t have found a worse target.

When Harris arrived, a man on the porch greeted him. Nothing out of the ordinary there. But then three more men sprang forth from the surrounding hedges, according to Sean Howard, a representative for Harvey police. “They put a chokehold on the senator, but to no avail. They were really trying to choke him to death, and he was just too strong. He out-powered all four of them,” he told CBS 2 TwinCities“As they were all beating on him, one guy just went out of his way and really hit him hard, and Napoleon never moved.”

The thugs stole Harris’s wallet as well as the pizza and took off in a Chevy Tahoe. The former baller pursued in his own car, following the Tahoe to a lumberyard and blocking it in. Harris called the Harvey police department, who arrived quickly.

But the assailants had fled on foot, leaving the vehicle behind…The vehicle which would soon incriminate them in a murder. Yup, police found blood in the Chevy Tahoe.

The truck was registered to a man named Lester Roy Jones. Analysis of the blood revealed it was his. What’s more, the man’s body was found in an abandoned house in Union City, Ga., a few days later and Georgia police ruled the death a homicide.

Turns out the four men had kidnapped and killed Jones after luring him with a dating app. Cops tracked down Harris’ attackers—now suspected murderers—based on the descriptions he gave them, as well as the evidence linked to the death in Georgia. The perfect gotcha.

Wild story, right? Guess it just goes to show: Never make assumptions!
