WHY Are People Supporting This New Body Trend?!
Trends are part of our current society. We all take part in them, and if you don't you probably at least watch other people take part in them. The bottom line is, we all love them. In some way, shape or form. In the past year or so, we've even seen trends affect our bodies, rather than the clothes we wear or the haircuts we get. Whether it's the Kylie Jenner lip challenge that happened last year, or the more recent thigh-brow phenomenon, people do weird things. And it doesn't seem to be slowing down.
The latest trend? Ab cracks. Yes! You did read that right. AB CRACKS. But what does that mean, exactly? How GROSS IS IT? Well...
This is what it means.
Now, while the name does sound kind of gross when you first read and hear about it, the actual effect isn't bad, right? It's probably something you'd never notice if it wasn't pointed out to you, isn't it? You'd just say, "Oh man, she must work out. She's got really defined abs." GOOD FOR HER!
And this isn't just limited to celebrities, many people are posting their own photos of themselves with the #abcrack tag on Instagram. On vacation, in bathroom mirrors, ab cracks are popping up everywhere.
My problem with this trend, and every other that has to do with someone's body, is that people are STUPID enough to think that this type of body definition is achievable for EVERYBODY when truly, it isn't. If it works for you, great but don't expect that hundreds of crunches a day is going to get you, or anyone else there.
But we want to be clear. There's nothing wrong with HAVING an ab crack, in the same way there's nothing wrong with having a thigh-gap or a hip dip. If these occur naturally on your body, great, if not, oh well!
As with most beauty trends, these body types are typically unattainable without completely TRASHING your health. So listen up, ladies (and gentlemen!) Don't risk your health for ab crack, thigh gap, or any other body trend out there.
As this fad starts to catch on, keep this in mind! You CAN'T turn yourself into something you're not. SO DON'T TRY TO, FOR GOD'S SAKE.
The other problem is that this does set a rather unrealistic standard for women to be held to. Just like thigh gaps and the like, not every woman looks like this. So if you're a dude and want a girl with an ab crack, DON'T TRY TO PUSH YOUR GIRLFRIEND INTO GETTING ONE. DON'T BE A DICK.
Personally, I think we should all take a cue from this woman.
Live your lives for you! DON'T HURT YOURSELF TRYING TO LOOK LIKE SOMEONE YOU AREN'T.
