WTF? This Louisiana Teen Was Banned From Prom For Showing Her Ankle!
Why are so many high school girls being turned away from prom for silly reasons?
It's not like these young women are opting to go full on naked. All they want to do in most cases is wear something that showcases them in a dress (or pantsuit) formation. The latest is a Louisiana teen banned from prom. Amari Williams, a senior at Carencro High School was banned because her dress showed of all things...some ankle, but some believe it was more than that that got her axed from her prom.
Lafayette Parish School System Chief Administrative Officer Joe Craig told KLFY.com, "The length has to be all the way to the ground, all the way around; kind of easy to remember. In this case, the dress was not all the way to the ground and on that basis, it wasn't considered a formal dress." Here's the thing though, Williams said she'd already gotten her dress length approved by their principal, but when she showed up, Principal Mary Qualey seemed to have suffered some memory loss.

Williams' mother Troynetta recalled the heartbreaking moment that her daughter was turned away to Yahoo Style, "I asked [principal Qualey] what was going on, [the dress] was approved months ago and she OK'd it. She told me, 'I've seen a lot of pictures.' We just kind of stood around, and my daughter was in tears."
Her mother also went on to say that she doesn't just think that it was the length the school had a problem with, it was the fact that the dress wasn't a traditional prom dress off the rack from Macy's. Instead it showcased a drop dead gorgeous print similar to something one would see in an African market.
So what we're thinking is that the principal was definitely okay with the length since various sources say she definitely said that was okay, but when push came to shove they were not feeling the design because the prom was a "formal" affair.
Let's be real, proms are not THAT fancy. Yes, they are a chance to get all dressed up but they are far from an event like the Oscars or the Golden Globes. The people in charge of the Carencro High School prom needed to slow their role and let loose with their whole "formal" thing because we've seen the dress and it was fine.
In fact, there are a number of high schools that need to calm it down. Unless students are trying to come to prom in their birthday suit, what they wear should not be the biggest issue.

In 2015 Mireya Briceno was like the Louisiana teen banned from prom when she was asked to leave prom after only an hour for what her school deemed a "revealing" dress. In reality the back was out, that was it. Then just last year a Pennsylvania teen made headlines when she was banned from her school's prom for wanting to wear a tux. Luckily another nearby school was more understanding of personal style and let her attend theirs instead.
