Why is it that people often complain about lemons? A bad car is a lemon, a bad relationship or situation... also a lemon. What about the lemons we like. You know, the ones that make your lemon-drop, or meringue all the better? Let's focus on those lemons, and get creative in the process.

Here are some uses for lemons that you may not have thought of:

1. Prevent Browning

What are examples of things you'd want to keep from becoming brown? This includes avocado halves, banana slices, apple pieces, and more. The acidity of lemon juice acts as a preserver of some fruits, extending their sweet, sweet life.

2. Get Tender

This is relevant to many meats and poultries, including pork, chicken, beef and more. The juice of a lemon breaks down tense fibers in meat, making hem more palatable once cooked.

3. Sub it Out

Are you trying to cut back on salt, but love the zingy, pungent flavor it lends? You may want to try a spritz or lemon juice in its place!

4. Keep Sugar from Clumping

How in the world do lemons contribute to sugar not forming those clumpy globs? Well, all you need to do is add the skin of a lemon slice to your brown sugar container, and reseal. Since there's minimal moisture in the peel, it won't get funky, but you will, however, reap the benefits of clump-free sugar the next time you dig in!

5. Hard Boil Eggs to Perfection

Plenty of people abide by the trick of adding salt or any assortment of oil to their pot of boiling water to ensure a perfect boiled egg. Why lemon? If your shells are prone to cracking, lightly brushing or dipping the exterior of your egg shells with lemon juice will keep them in tact.

6. Keep Lettuce from Wilting

We've all experienced the less-than-crunchy salas, and if there's anything we can do about it, let's make sure we never go through that again, okay? If your leaves are already on the limp side, they can be revived! Soak your leaves in ice cold water with half a cup of lemon juice, refrigerate for an hour, and then, enjoy your revived lettuce!
