This nation's first Black President may have had a white mother and was raised by his white grandparents in Hawaii, but he has never sliced and diced his race. 

Since

he's been in the spotlight, he's been very clear: He is acBlack man in America. 

This can be seen with his book about his Kenyan father, "Dreams From My Father"

and how he regards his wife, Former First Lady Michelle Obama, and his daughters Malia and Sasha, in such high esteem. #RelationshipGoals 

The "Just Wright" actress told Ebony magazine that despite her white mother, she believes that identifying as biracial is somewhat "offensive."

“I find [the word biracial] offensive,” Patton told the

publication back in 2010. 

“It's a way for people to separate themselves from African Americans....a way of saying, 'I'm better than that.' I'm Black because that's the way the world

sees me. People aren't calling Barack Obama biracial.”  #Word 

Even before Colin decided to take a knee, it was clear that he was always a brotha. We mean he pledged the historically Black frat Kappa Alpha Psi when he

attended the University of Nevada for goodness sake!

Since then, the former NFL player has become a household name for his historic (and polarizing) peaceful protests against racial inequality and

police brutality in this country.

Growing up as a mixed child in Ohio, Halle Berry has admitted to having issues being accepted by both Black and white communities as she held on to both racial

identities. 

But as she got older, she realized that being both "wasn't working for her." With the help of her white mother, she decided to solely identify as the race

she looked most like--African-American. 

“I made the decision early on to accept that I was really a black woman with a white mother, and that that was OK,” Berry has

said in the past. 

Despite being born to a Jewish-Anglo mother and having been raised Jewish, the Canadian rapper has always been one to point out his Black Memphis roots and his African-American father. 

In addition, he has spoken about his life and connected to his hip-hop music through the lens of a Black man. 

Pretty obvious, eh?

Singer Halsey may look more white on the outside, but she wants for the world to know that's not how she sees herself. 

In an interview with Playboy in

August, she spoke in depth about her racial identity.  

“I look like a white girl, but I don’t feel like one. I’m a Black woman,” the singer explained.

"Grey's Anatomy" actor Jesse Williams may talk about being both Black and white, but he has been a staunch supporter of the Black Lives Matter Movement, was a leader in

the NAACP before he got to Hollywood, and is not one to bite his tongue on social media telling off white supremacists.

In the 2015 documentary "A Ballerina's Tale," Misty Copeland stresses that while despite having a white mother, she does not refer to herself as biracial. 

"I've gotten some

flack from the African-American community...[people] say 'you're not really Black,' or 'you don't really have dark skin,'" she says. 

"I'm fully aware that it's harder to succeed in ballet as

a darker-skinned woman, but it has to start somewhere." 

She adds that the racial discrimination in ballet — and the rest of the world — doesn't differentiate between dark-skinned and

light-skinned: "I know that I'm viewed as a Black woman in society."

Rapper J. Cole will be the first to tell you that his Mama is white, but he'll also tell you that he isn't. 

"I can identify with White people, because

I know my mother, her side of the family, who I love. I’ve had White friends. I know people from high school that I might not have hung out with

outside of high school, but I think I got to know them pretty well, so I know they sense of humor," he told XLL in 2011. 

He added:

"But at the end of the day, I never felt White. I don’t know what that feels like. I can identify. But never have I felt like I’m one of

them. Not that I wanted to, or tried to, but it just was what it was. I identify more with what I look like, because that’s how I got treated.

Not necessarily in a negative way. But when you get pulled over by the police, I can’t pull out my half-White card. Or if I just meet you on the

street, you’re not gonna be like, This guy seems half-White.”

The Grammy-winning singer also has a white mother and believes that having two parents from different races has helped her "relate to everyone," but she isn't naive about who she

is and how the world sees her in return. 

“My mixed-race background made me a broad person, able to relate to different cultures. But any woman of color, even a

mixed color, is seen as Black in America. So that’s how I regard myself,” she told the Guardian in 2011.
