Nina Simone, aka “The High Priestess of Soul” was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and activist in the Civil Rights Movement. Simone employed a broad range of musical styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop. But never rock and roll. 

Nevertheless, she will be posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Class of 2018. This very prestigious honor is long overdue (she’s been eligible since 1986). You’ll be reading a lot about Nina between now and the ceremony, but here’s 10 things we bet you didn’t know.
