Gallery: 12 Lunchalicious Chimichanga Recipes
There are some fierce claims from both sides of the border between the U.S. and Mexico about who created the first chimichanga recipe. The Arizonans insist that it was they who made an American-Mexican fusion by taking the classic Mexican burrito and deep frying it to rename it the chimichanga. But the states of Sonora and Sinaloa of Mexico also claim the honor.
Whomever it was deserves our gratitude, because there are few better foods than a meat or fish laden burrito on a plate and slathered in a delicious sauce and cheese. That is unless, of course, you stuff it with fruit and cream cheese or chocolate and serve it with ice cream!
