Big Red is very aptly named because it is an amorphous red blob. He is incredibly popular, having won multiple awards. 

This mascot rests in an uncanny valley due to its almost human-yet-cartoony appearance. It is the result of a contest where locals turned in mascot ideas and it's meant to

celebrate the industrial heritage of the area.

This mascot isn't the regular Pelicans mascot, but it does pop up during Mardi Gras and has a tendency to sneak up on unsuspecting victims. 

It's not an official mascot by any means, but the joke that the school known for design would have a mascot that's a giant penis is pretty funny. 

The tree is a reference to one of the many industries that the founder of Stanford was involved in. Not to mention, there's a tree on the seal of Stanford.

The hyper-masculine character seems to fit right in on a football team. The mascot has gone on to become a popular internet meme. (Not even remotely surprising.)

The college's teams are collectively known as the Black Friars so the mascot choice isn't exactly surprising. The fact that a friar is going around being a trickster is pretty hilarious, though.

The names are inspired by landmarks in London, the home of the 2012 Summer Olympics. There isn't any real explanation for why they look the way they do, though.

Pete is based on a real life cowboy (well, his basic head shape is), Frank Eaton.

The mascot is a bale of hay, which make sense because players at one time would make money in the off season shucking away in the fields.

Since the school's athletic teams are known as the Commodores, Mr. C is a commodore brought to life.

This yellow and furry fellow gets its name from the process of combining two solids to make a liquid. Apparently it has no connection to the actual creature.

The name may imply that the rope the mascot is holding is going to choke out students, but really it's a tool used for wrapping around trees when logging. It's

just got an unfortunate name.

The official website for the school completely embraces the weird nature of this mascot and proudly features links to articles calling it the worst mascot ever.

Students love the Banana Slug mascot and opted for it over the more low key seas lion option.

Mascots don't always have to be inspired by living things. Students got to chose the mascot and they opted for this, even when "Scoundrels" was on the table.

The school proudly embraces its designation of “Cheesiest College Mascot.”

Apparently, students liked the idea of a sneaky, minuscule mascot over something obvious, like, say, a lion.

Yes, THAT Dartmouth. The official school mascot has been shunned in favor of a giant keg that the students are in love with.

He was based on a jalepeno pepper in order to pay homage to Mexican cuisine and his name is an illusion to the Spanish word for "spicy."

It's not so much that it's weird looking that makes this mascot stand out, but more the oddly specific and lesser known dog choice for a mascot. Why not the

Pepperdine has been through a number of mascots, but they finally settled on Willie. I get it. It's the hair.

Pete has an honest to God GPA at the school. Obviously, he keeps up with his studies, since he has a 4.0. 

Not gonna lie, Rocky looks sort of like a Power Ranger. Which in my nostalgia drunk brain is a very good thing. There has never been a Navy Blue Ranger

It kind of sounds like a creature that you'd find in the pages of "Alice in Wonderland," right? Fitting, since it was created by students as their own mythical beast.

At first glance, a blob might seem like a pretty unimaginative mascot, but they really ran with it and made their own Muppet.

If you don't immediately know what the mascot is, the name will instantly give it away. It's suitably named after the surrounding agriculture of the school. 

This school went a different direction with the mascot and basically gave a real human being a cartoonish, fuzzy exterior. The real Ichabod Washburn was the namesake of the campus.

This bear is pretty dang close to being that portly uncle you only see at Christmas. Still, it's been around for over seventy years and is an "eternal sophomore."

This school is so in love with school spirit that it has more than one mascot. This baby thing and Herbie Husker, a...husker.

He's known colloquially as the "fighting" okra, so that angry expression should now make about 1000% more sense. 

It's an unfortunate name, but the mascot was introduced in 1934, so the name obviously didn't have the connotation it does today. But, you could...change it?

Originally, the mascot was a rip off of Donald Duck. Well, not a rip off, but as close as you can get without being a rip off. Then it went

full Tony Mallard: Iron Duck. Needless to say, it didn't stick. 

There's something sad about referring to yourself as a cow. Do they say, "The Cows are stampeding," when they run onto the field?

This mascot is a living horse, which is a change of pace. The name also served as the name of a now defunct medical tonic. Guess the horse won out. 

This dude definitely got caught doing something he shouldn't have been doing, and based on that confusing expression, I'm not sure I want to know what it is.
