Gallery: A Few Natural (And Proven) Ways to Banish Razor Bumps
Like it or not (and really, who ever really likes it?!) razor bumps are a fact of life. If you shave, at some point in your life (unless you’re REALLY LUCKY), you’re going to have to deal with ‘em. But what causes them?
Razor bumps are basically ingrown hairs. When you shave (especially if you go against the way it naturally grows), sometimes the tiny hairs curl back into themselves and into your skin. That irritates your hair follicles, resulting in small bumps. Sometimes they can turn into pimples and even scarring.
Is there any way to prevent them? Short answer, shave less. But if you like a clean, close shave on your legs, underarms and bikini area, it’s always a good idea to moisten your skin, lather it up with a thick shaving gel and then shave with an electric razor (one that has a sterilized blade).
Also, don’t stretch your skin, go with the grain and try to avoid going over the same area more than twice. Follow up the shave with a moisturizer cream.
And, what do you do about the ones that already exist? That’s what this post is for. We’re going to provide you with some tips for how to heal your bumps, prevent scarring and even keep razor bumps from coming back with the help of a few items that probably already in your bathroom and kitchen cabinets.
