Amara is clear: She's Black and VERY PROUD! (Hence the La Negra part) And it's no secret that this racial pride is a sentiment that other Afro-Latinas don't necessarily scream out loud the

way the Dominican singer does. So, we're here for it all!

Not to mention, her very visibility and self-love reminds us that J-Lo and Sophia Vergara don't define what being Latina

can look like. It can look like Amara too!

Colorism--the backward ideal of favoring lighter skin and straighter hair over darker skin and kinkier hair--isn't talked about too publicly among Latinos. But on the debut episode of the VH1

reality show, Amara La Negra wasn't gonna let producer Young Hollywood tell her that her afro wasn't elegant. 

She ripped into him and reminded him that she is Latina, but she

is also BLACK and has NO INTENTION to change her features or look to fit into some white standard of beauty.

Amara is no stranger to the singing world. 

She first started off as a child star on Univision's Sábado Gigante and now she's making a serious name for herself in the

urban Latin music industry with a new multi-album record deal with Fast Life Entertainment Worldwide and BMG. She's going to be working with producers who create hits for Miley and Rihanna!

She told Billboard, "I’m still in shock! At times, I am caught pinching myself because there is a part of me that still is in awe of being

signed to a franchise that will heighten my success."

We cannot wait for her new music to drop!

Not only is she outspoken, self-aware and talented, Amara is honestly one of the most beautiful women in the game right now.

PEOPLE noted that singles such as “Pa’ Tu Cama Ni Loca” and “Se Que Soy” show a woman can be proud of her

sexuality and have agency over who gets to access it. 

“I am a risk-taker. I am focused. I am a fighter,” she told El Nuevo Herald. “I want to bring this

flavor to music.”
