OK, before even diving into this topic, lets get this out there --- the average American puts on 1-2 lbs during the holiday season. You may be fearful it be tens and tens of pounds, but the reality is a lot less. That being said, holiday weight gain is a real thing! Even more than that, is the feeling of being "out of your routine" and eating foods you don't normally partake in.
Even if you spend two days eating nothing but desserts, what will (usually) happen is your body’s metabolism will slow down so that it can store more fat. But once you resume to your normal eating habits, your body will adjust so that you can keep the pounds off.
None of this is a license to go crazy at the table, though. We’re simply saying that it’s a pretty miserable existence to go an entire holiday season without a slice of pumpkin pie or a piece of homemade red velvet cake!
