and very funny for its time!

host's offer to join the group!

Flip Wilson credits Johnny Carson with helping him launch his own TV show... in spite of being bumped "five times!" He also jokes about being sued by "That Old Black

Magic" (aka, Frank Sinatra).

Flip Wilson was already revered as one of TV's top comics in the era of Flower Power... and it was around this time he gave an up-and-coming comedian named George

Carlin a break. He appeared on The Flip Wilson Show as a regular, and the news skit (long before SNL's) was always a fan fave.

"You know the world is square," says Wilson, onstage smoking a cigarette. "And Columbus said, 'They sure are!'" Oh, those hippie punchlines... 

"Generally I don't pass judgement on people's kids, but even if I don't say it... it's still an ugly baby." Then he goes on to tell the story of a

drunk who sees the baby too and says everything he *really* wanted to say. Classic Flip!
