Gallery: Did Trump Fire Comey Because Of Russia? Twitter Thinks So & They're Pissed
He’s famous for saying “You’re fired,” but that’s usually to former reality stars on network television.
This time, Donald Trump axed James Comey, the director of the FBI, and the timing is suspicious AF.
Comey was heavily praised by Trump last year, before the latter even took office, for his investigations into the Clinton email scandal. That situation is widely believed to have massively helped Trump win the Presidency.
But now, just months later, Comey is out of a job due to the same man, and some are pointing to the suspicious fact that Comey was currently leading the investigation into the White House’s ties to Russia.
“While I greatly appreciate you informing me, on three separate occasions, that I am not under investigation, I nevertheless concur with the judgment of the Department of Justice that you are not able to effectively lead the bureau,” reads Trump’s letter to Comey.
That line about his not being investigated is so obvious—and the public nature of the letter so unusual —that many are choosing to imply the exact opposite of what Trump stated.
Oh, and the day after letting Comey go, Trump had exactly one meeting scheduled...with the Russians!
The news of the firing has massive implications in the world of politics and justice, and, of course, on Twitter. You can see some of the internet’s most on-point reactions to Trump’s latest move in the slideshow above.
