The first thing to know about CrossFit is that it isn't any one thing. Created by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai in 2000, this loose collection of workout routines has evolved into its own competitive sport, integrating various elements from different kinds of workouts to push your body to the max.
CrossFit emphasizes the power of "constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movement," and aims to work all the different areas of your body, with the goal of improving your abilities in ten different areas: cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance and accuracy.
Authority over what is or is not a CrossFit workout is decentralized, and the general system is used all over the world at a network of over thirteen thousand gyms, along with various public institutions in the education and defense sectors, and even a few sports teams.
