When you finally find "the one," everything changes. "I" becomes "we," you talk about when to start a family and even consider where you will spend your golden years together. As a rule of thumb, newly-engaged couples usually marry within a year or so. The Knot polled their readers in 2015 which revealed that their average engagement lasted 14.5 months. Brides.com reported that in the United States, engagements last from one to one-and-a-half years.

The length of an engagement varies from one couple to the next. Some people will wait to finish school, complete military commitments or secure their careers. Sometimes, life happens. We must all be mindful that for a lot of brides, the wedding day is still the most important day of her life. She put in the time and commitment to secure her relationship and fully expects to walk down that aisle. It would be a really bad idea to even hint at criticism of a long courtship. Seriously.
