Candyman is a cult classic that’ll make you question just how real those so-called urban legends your big bro or sis used to recount were. 

This horror villain is one

straight out of the Cabrini Green projects in the Chi who takes pleasure in slicing and dicing his victims. Call Candyman out for just being superstitious and prepare to feel

his wrath or more appropriately, hook. God-complex, much?

Say his name 5 times in the mirror, and watch Candyman appear…if you dare.

We hope we all have at least heard of Tales from the Hood, another horror classic loaded with enough social commentary and chills to keep you on edge for the

next couple of nights.

Things get weird AF for 3 teenage drug dealers who come to pick up a “package” at a funeral home when they stumble upon a disturbing

mortician who revels in telling them stories about some of the dead that he has come across at his place of employment.

Produced by Spike Lee, so it’s pretty lit.

This film takes frightening and common situations from the black experience that mainstream doesn’t give much shine to (such as police brutality, domestic violence, and racist politicians in power) and

flips the switch.

Tales from the Hood takes horror to both new and (all too familiar) heights.

Get Out is not yet a classic, but we’re sure it soon will be. With a recent release in early 2017, Director Jordan Peele shocked us with his intense glance

into the black experience by going down the rabbit hole about the ways white oppression affects black consciousness and sense of urgency to the ways in which the black body

is perceived.

This style of horror is more so, psychological, and in conclusion one of the most paralyzing forms of the genre, as shown by the main character’s arrest into

the Sunken Place.

Peele is the GOAT for translating our everyday horrors onto this cinematic platform.

Balcula is not your typical Vampire in Brooklyn joint, yet your Grandma or Ma may be a little more familiar with this Blaxploitation classic.
