Gallery: Classic Moments When TV For Kids Got Unexpectedly Real About Life Lessons

For those of us lucky enough to grow up in the '80s and '90s, television was a staple of our childhood, and this era brought the best variety of programming for children to date. Our generation was unified by our TV sets, and whether we watched out of love or boredom, our Saturday morning cartoons and weeknight sitcoms were usually accompanied by virtue and innocence. 

Looking back as an adult, however, these shows weren’t always lollipops and rainbows. There were a few times that our favorite shows slapped us with some grown-up scenarios and took on some pretty heavy content. At the time, we might not have fully picked up on the gravity and enlightenment of those scenes, but as adults, we can totally relate to these real life scenes that gave us a heavy dose of #truth before we were old enough to handle it.
