In July 13, 2014, authorities found Roy’s body in his pickup truck, in a parking lot where, the night before, he had attached a hose to a portable generator to

fill the cab with the carbon monoxide that killed him.

He died of carbon monoxide poisoning in July 2014 after his girlfriend Michelle persistently told him to kill himself over text.

After the transcripts of Carter's texts were released, Gleeks everywhere noticed something suspicious. Carter directly took quotes from Lea Michele's character Rachel Berry and craved the sympathy Berry

got after her boyfriend Finn died. Carter even once told her friends she was obsessed with Lea.

Michelle had the chance to save Roy, but instead, she pushed him to the edge.

"You always say you’re gonna do it, but you never do," she wrote. "I just want

to make sure tonight is the real thing. You just have to do it. It’s painless and quick."

When he told her he exited his truck because he was scared, she

told him to "get back in."

We don't know what went on before Roy's death, but according to Michelle's lawyer, his client meant no harm.

“A lot of what has been reported thus far is that Michelle

Carter always wanted to endorse Conrad Roy’s plan to kill himself,” Michelle's attorney Joseph Cataldo told PEOPLE. “For weeks prior to agreeing to his plan, she tried to talk him

out of it, and he tried to get her to commit suicide with him.”

Can you ever truly be responsible for someone else's suicide? If so, where do we draw the line?

At the end of the day, Roy was suffering from depression and even

attempted suicide before. But on another hand, there is textual evidence that Michelle convinced him to kill himself. 

“Prosecutors will have to prove that Carter [caused] Conrad Roy to kill himself

and essentially caused his death,” attorney Daniel Medwed told The Washington Post. “Defense lawyers are going to argue that he’s had suicidal tendencies predating their relationship. They’re going to emphasize that

he was alone in his car, that ultimately it was his decision. She knew he was suicidal, but did she know that he was going to go through with it?”
