There’s a new trend in housing that, I think it’s safe to say, no one saw coming: shipping containers.

Seriously -- those massive crates you see on the back of freighter ships and mack trucks? People have taken to living in them.

Which is not as squalid as it may first sound. Because with a little imagination and know how, clever builders are turning these industrial boxes into cozy, high tech homes. Check out some of the coolest designs below:
