It’s no secret that we’re a country that loves breasts. I mean, really, what’s not to love? But, did you know that mammary manipulation ranks No. 2 in the nation when it comes to the kind of plastic surgery people get? 

As far as geography goes, when it comes to breast-related plastic surgery, the jury is unanimous: the Mountain region (Arizona, Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming) is the place where Americans get the most boob jobs! And, you won’t believe it when we tell you WHICH state takes the cake in first place! (Psst, we’ll give you a hint… it’s not the home of our beloved Sin City playground.) It’s… UTAH! Yes, folks, the epicenter of Mormon-America ranks first in the nation for boob jobs! The second highest region in our country? Well, this kinda makes sense… The Pacific region! States like California and Hawaii help make the the Western states the home of 1/3 the breast augmentations performed in America. Hot weather =’s hot bodies!  Or, at least a societal pressure to achieve and display a “bikini-ready body” all year round.

The average age for a woman getting breast implants is 34 years old which, not coincidentally, is around the age  that many women in the country are raiding children and dealing with their post child-birth-bodies. In fact, 90% of women who have breast augmentation after they have kids. 

You may be scratching your head on something we just shared… Mormons and boob jobs? It would seem so! According to some interpretations, Mormon women are encouraged to get married at a very early age so, by the time the reach their late 20’s their bodies have been through multiple pregnancies. According to Gretta Whalen,  an LDS member, former Utah resident and daughter to the director of the breast care center at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, “"These girls go from basically being teenagers to having three, four, five kids by the time they're 30… Having children in a short amount of time really changes your body, and all they want is to have what they had before. It's a restorative process." 

But does it go beyond this? Studies have shown that there may be a tie between political orientation and breast augmentations. Research has indicated that more breast augmentations are done in Red States than Blue States and breast-related internet searches were the most searched for topic in 15 Red States vs 11 Blue.
